Sara Herrera

Education Director and Dance Instructor

Sara Herrera is a professional artist, choreographer, and performer with over 20 years of experience teaching dance in the DC metro area, NYC, NJ, summer stock in Maine and at the Sapperlot Youth Theatre Festival in Brixen, Italy.

She has performed and toured nationally in productions such as What's Going On-The Marvin Gaye Project (a DancePlace and VT Dance production),  Paper Dreams (Imagination Stage production in collaboration with Mons Dansa-Barcelona, Spain); performed with DC local theater-Pointless Theatre's Rite of Spring and Forest Treas; Women’s Voices International Theatre Festival with Rainbow Theatre Project; In Series: Opera and More as a flamenco dancer in the Spanish operas, La Vida Breve, Goyesca’s y Goyesquitas at the Gala Hispanic Theater with additional performances at the Embassies of Indonesia, Austria, and Hungary. She has been a guest artist with some of Washington DC’s most prestigious dance companies such as darlingdance, Rebollar Dance, Uprooted Dance, SpaceTime Dance, DancEthos and with the Minneapolis based dance company, BodyCartography.

Sara’s work has been showcased at the Capital Fringe Festival (DC), Asheville Fringe Festival (NC), Fort Worth Fringe Festival (TX), Sapperlot Festival (Italy), Arts on Site (NYC) and the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage commissioned by Agora Dance (DC).

Before returning to her hometown of Fort Worth after 23 years, Sara was also passionately involved in her Washington, DC neighborhood, curating Arts and Community events such as outdoor summer dance concerts, showcasing local artists during First Fridays, A Night of 1,000 Fridas and Opera at Lincoln's Cottage, to name a few. Collaborating, and supporting, with local businesses and neighbors to highlight their vibrant DC neighborhood while presenting art in unconventional spaces. She was the co-founder of Petworth Arts Collaborative, an active member of the Lower Georgia Avenue Main Street Neighborhood Strategy Council and Ward 4 Arts in Washington, DC. 

Sara is thrilled to begin another chapter in her artistic life as the Education Director and Dance Instructor for Artes de la Rosa’s Artes Academy.  To be given this opportunity to share her experiences as an artist, both the failures and successes as well as everything in between, to aspiring young artists, is truly a gift. In addition to her role with Artes Academy, Sara is also the Program Manager for Leaderhsip Fort Worth's Leader Kids program and a board member of LGBTQ SAVES.

*Sara holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Modern Dance from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA.

Rob Bosquez

Theatre and Creative Writing Instructor

Rob is a Ft. Worth native. A writer/director actor. Rob is also the creative writing/acting/improv instructor for Artes de la Rosa’s Artes Academy @ the Rose Marine Cultural Center, with whom he has created over 50 productions for young audiences during the past seventeen years, including co-productions with The Fort Worth Opera, Feed by Grace, a non-profit organization that helps Fort Worth’s homeless population, Fort Worth’s Imagination Celebration and The Jubilee Theatre.

Rob currently teaches creative writing and acting for Ft. Worth’s Stage West Theatre, with whom he has co-founded, The neighborhood Play Contest & The Festival of the Kid, which has produced the writings of hundreds of local students with professional directors and stage artists for the past fifteen years. Rob is the director/founder of Stage West’s in-house teen ensemble, the West Vickery Vagabonds. 

Rob is the recipient of numerous awards from the Live Theatre League including The Outstanding Achievement award, The Young Artist Award, and the Diversity Award. 

As director, select credits include “Death of a Salesman” by Arthur Miller as Artistic Director for Fort Worth Theatre’s 50th Anniversary season, which starred Jerry Russell and “Waiting for Godot” by Samuel Beckett as well as plays by Luis Valdez and William Shakespeare. Rob directed the first play for the first Latin theatre organization in Fort Worth – Teatro de la Rosa’s 2002 production of Sam Shepard’s “Eyes for Consuela.” Rob has had numerous short stories and poetry published in literary magazines such as The Panther City Review and His original play “The Breeze Through the Cherry Fields,” was recently published by the Langdon Review. 

Rob is also an award-winning filmmaker with his short film BEAUTIMOUS, which he wrote and directed, taking 2nd place at Endeavor Cinema’s Funkytown Winter film festival in 2016.

Jenae Bean

Visual Art Instructor

Jenae is a local artist and educator. She specializes in painting, drawing and has large scale murals for FWISD. Jenae currently teaches at Meacham Middle School as the Fine Arts department head and art teacher for 6th-8th grade. Prior to that, she taught as an elementary art teacher for 5 years and received her BFA in Studio Art from Texas State University. 

Her mural artwork can be seen throughout Fort Worth in elementary schools and middle schools. 

"I strive to create art projects that will give the students a chance to express themselves and their interests while they become better artists in the process. I believe the studio space should be a place to get messy, make mistakes and try new things because that's how artists truly grow."

Colby Chapa

Technology-Film and Animation Instructor

Colby Chapa was born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas. Growing up making short films with his cousins he has always been drawn to computers and cameras. After winning a short film festival Colby began working for a production studio where he gained many years of experience working on commercials, television shows, and local news broadcasts. Colby then graduated from the University of Texas in Arlington with a degree in art and education. 

While in school he discovered how much he enjoyed working with students and affecting their lives in positive ways. Colby brings his love for film and technology to a learning environment where all students can strive. Colby is excited to be a part of Artes de la Rosa where he gets to share his talents with all of his great students.

Juan Velazquez

Visual Art Instructor

Juan is a Fort Worth artist, who employs the use of oil painting to express modern realism, primarily through portraits. "I believe that artistic work can be more easily appreciated when the focus is narrowed, and the subject is clear."

Stephanie Montes de Oca Frias

Intern Dance Instructor and Choreographer

Stephanie Montes de Oca Frias was born in Mexico City and raised in Dallas, Texas. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts where she studied dance under the direction of Lily Cabatu Weiss and Kate Walker. Upon graduating, Stephanie attended Sam Houston State University where she continued her dance training. She is currently a senior at the School for Classical & Contemporary Dance at Texas Christian University and will receive a BFA in Modern dance with a minor in Arts Leadership and Entrepreneurship. Over the course of her career, Stephanie has studied and performed in the styles of ballet, modern, contemporary, Folklorico and jazz. She has worked with artists such as Sidra Bell, Alicia Graf Mack, Rennie Harris, and Dwight Rhoden and performed works from Vincent Hardy (Promise Land), Bryn Cohn (Flight Pattern), Jose Limon (There Is A Time, War Solo), and Andy Noble (Tower).

The Rose Marine Theater is located at 1440 N. Main St. between downtown Fort Worth and the Stockyards Conveniently located near I-35, the Plaza has ample nearby parking.

The Rose Marine Theater conforms to all standards established in the 1987 Americans With Disabilities Act. Full handicapped seating and parking is available.

Parking

Easily accessible, well-lit, secure parking is available in a lot located on the corner of Main and NE 14th St. – within a few steps of the Rose Marine Theater. The entrance to the lot is located on NE 14th St.

Public Transportation

The Rose Marine Theater is accessible by The Fort Worth Transit Authority (The T) bus lines via Route #1 or the Trolley Route #15 on Saturdays only. For specific route information please contact the The T at 817-215-8600.

Alcohol

The Rose Marine Theater is a family-centered facility and as such promotes a responsible use of alcohol. Alcoholic beverages may not be brought onto the grounds of the Rose Marine Theater. Alcohol will be served only when sanctioned by the Corporation and dispensed by a licensed server to dispense alcoholic beverages.

Constructed in 2005, the Art Gallery at Artes de la Rosa, Galería de la Rosa, is wide open with a very modern feel. The space can be adapted for a wide variety of events. Have your group event in the gallery space surrounded by beautiful local art provided by Artes de la Rosa. DJ's and caterers are welcome!
